"BUNNT-CO"

In view of the general socio-economic and climate policy challenges, the resilience forces of civil society in the north-western Tunisian governorates are to be strengthened and supported to engage themselves in sustainable urban and regional development.

Four years ago, the network "Réseau des Associations Environnementales dans le Nord-Ouest de la Tunisie (RAENOT)" was founded within the framework of the project "BUNNT". One of the project's goals is to strengthen and further develop the existing structures.

The nature, environment and climate policy work of the target group of the associations cooperating in the "RAENOT" network is to be advanced in a productive cooperation with the civil society stakeholders. This is done by providing qualifications and competences, especially for multipliers and for all "driving forces", with the help of the democracy-promoting and problem-solving moderation concept of "community organising".

As a result, the motivation of citizens to participate in political, social, cultural and economic processes in civil society is to be strengthened.

“Revitalisation of neglected protected areas in north-western Tunisia”

The project aims to improve the situation and the level of knowledge regarding neglected protected areas in north-western Tunisia: the Oued Zen National Park, the Ain Zana Nature Reserve in Jendouba, and the Saddine and Jbel Essif–Mallègue Nature Reserves in Kef.

The project adopts a sustainable approach based on awareness-raising, environmental education and communi-cation, and is being implemented in partnership with RAENOT, the regional education authorities, the regional agri-cultural authorities, the regional office of the Ministry of the Environment in the Kef Governorate, and the media.

Civil society plays a crucial role in identifying problems, proposing solutions and creating opportunities for co-operation and the involvement of stakeholders.

This project builds on the outcomes of the ‘Protected Areas’ Dialogue Forum and the results of micro-projects (in particular environmental education clubs in primary schools) achieved as part of the BUNNT-CO project.
